feeling groovy

A few reasons today rocks:
1. I got 2 extra hours of sleep & still woke up at 8:00am.
2. I realized there are 12 weeks left of school - excluding Easter break & finals week. Holy cow. That's awesome, and at the same time, kinda sad. Last night I said to Doug, "I must be getting older, because time is going by faster."
3. Look at these adorable bunnies Victoria made!
4. I got to visit Jeanette & baby Elijah for the 1st time today!

Oh my word, he is the sweetest, tiniest little angel. And Jeanette is already an incredible mom.
5. This glorious sign, which I saw many times going to & from SAU back in the day... this is the first time I've remembered or been quick enough with my camera to capture it.

Since I hate Man Utd even more than tomatoes or the Yankees, and since they're unfortunately 1st right now & the last time Chelsea beat them was last April... this is really all I've got right now.
6. I've been humming "Na, na, na diva is a female version of a hustla!" to myself all day.
7. I have been so good about doing lesson planning so far over this break! Aaand I'm a nerd, because I'm totally stealing Megan's idea for Greek mythology presentations - and I'm so pumped about it!
8. My family is coming to visit this weekend!!
9. My mentor & dear friend, Ellie, just got back from a mission trip in Africa, and our small group is meeting tonight, so I get to hear about it (& hopefully see pictures...).
10. Today is Fat Tuesday, which is an awesome excuse for eating a lot of chocolate today.
11. It is so gloriously sunny today!

What's making YOU smile today?

mawiage!

I stole this marriage survey thingy from Dooce, because I think it’s pretty cool. Also, because it’s 4:30 on a Friday afternoon & I just started my mid-winter break.

What are your middle names?

My middle name is Clara; Doug’s middle name is Ian.

How long have you been together?

Married for a year and a half, “together” for almost 5 years.

How long did you know each other before you started dating?

About 3 months.

Who asked whom out?

Well, Doug told me that he had an intramural basketball game if I was “interested in going to watch.” Then he kept wanting to hang out, and one day he invited me to a baseball game, and on the way, he asked if I’d “officially” be his girlfriend.

How old are each of you?

Doug’s 26 & I’m 24.

Whose siblings do you see the most?

Doug’s.

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?

We haven’t had one particular situation that has been the “hardest” yet - it’s just been various communication issues and still adjusting to being married, I think.

Did you go to the same school?

Yep - good ole Spring Arbor University. Doug graduated in 2005, and I graduated in 2007.

Are you from the same home town?

No - I grew up in Kent, NY, and Doug grew up in Canton, MI.

Who is smarter?

Doug’s the left brain & I'm the right brain. For all practical purposes, Doug is smarter. Let's put it this way - the only time you should ever use me as your Phone-a-Friend over Doug is if the question is about Latin, literature or ice skating. Or ice cream.

Who is the most sensitive?

Me, doubtlessly.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?

We mostly eat at home, but our favorite restaurant to treat ourselves is Bravo.

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?

When Doug came to visit while I was at Oxford, we flew to France for a weekend.

Who has the craziest exes?

Neither of us really dated anyone crazy, per se. I don’t really feel comfortable badmouthing exes, because we’ve all been there - I’m sure there are a few guys who might consider me a crazy ex.

Who has the worst temper?

Hm, tough question! We both like to be right. Doug is probably more open with his anger, whereas I stuff things inside until one tiny thing pushes me over the edge.

Who does the cooking?

Me.

Who is the neat-freak?

Neither of us. We both make equal messes & then we both share in tidying up.

Who is more stubborn?

Oh my word. Let’s just put it this way - may God have mercy on our souls when our genes combine & we reproduce.

Who hogs the bed?

We have greatly improved in this area! When we were first married, I got kicked & elbowed constantly. I think I still have a tendency to hog blankets, but space is not usually an issue.

Who wakes up earlier?

Me.

Where was your first date?

Officially, a Tigers game.

Who is more jealous?

Me.

How long did it take to get serious?

Define serious. I think we pretty much just knew we were going to get married & that was that. We didn’t talk about it for a long time - he didn’t even tell me he loved me until we had been dating for almost a year & a half, but we pretty much knew.

Who eats more?

Doug.

Who does the laundry?

Both of us, actually.

Who’s better with the computer?

Doug.

Who drives when you are together?

Well, Doug drives, and I tell him how to drive.

24

No, I'm not talking about the ridiculous tv series in which Jack Bauer has, undoubtedly, the worst life ever.

I'm talking about years. 24 years in which Lyndsay Grimm has graced the earth with her presence!

I hope you have an awesome birthday, Lynz - I can't wait to see you tomorrow night! :)

jumping jacks fail

Courtesy of failblog.org - the jumping jacks fail. This gets funnier every time I watch it.

2.14.2009

i hate to say it, but...

Told you so.

Just a little "Happy Valentine's Day, suckers!" from Mother Nature.

2.10.2009

days like today...

... when it's nearly 8pm and it's still 52 degrees, almost make me forget that it's February in Michigan and it was, oh, -8 degrees (NEGATIVE EIGHT DEGREES) last week.

It was so pleasant that I went for a walk in just a sweatshirt. Um, and jeans. Just to clarify.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go remind myself that February's not even half over, which means we've probably got at least 2 more good snowstorms ahead, and then drown my sorrows in a bowl of ice cream.

2.09.2009

because i like random posts

1. I think Tina Fey & I would be great friends.
2. I miss taking piano lessons. Does anyone know a good intermediate instructor in the Plymouth/Canton area?
3. Watched Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist over the weekend - pretty good!
4. I am officially halfway through Moby Dick.
5. Doug is the funniest man alive.
6. I feel like a high schooler - I need to start looking for a summer job.
7. Song of the day: "Blindsided" by Bon Iver.
8. It really irks me when I say good morning to someone and they don't respond.
9. Re-discovered the Vintage21 Jesus videos over the weekend. Vintage21 created these videos to provide a satirical look at the way many people view Jesus. The best one is video three.
10. I don't have anything else to say, but I just couldn't make myself stop a list at 9.

j-unit

Happy birthday, dear Jeanette!
I hope your day has been reflective of YOU - awesome, fun and full of laughter & joy. If you were here, I'd rap some Jay-z for you and engage in some witty banter with you.

Your last birthday without a child running around (um, outside the womb, that is)!
I'm so excited for you & Ben - you guys are an amazing couple, and I know you'll be incredible parents.

Thanks for being such a great friend.
I love you!

2.03.2009

numbered list of awesome 2

1. So I got a hit counter on January 11th, then I forgot about it, then I remembered I had it again yesterday. I checked it last night and noticed that I've had 1,074 visitors since January 11th! Holy moley. Then tonight I checked it, and I have 1,129 visitors - whoa! Granted, about 30 of those since Jan. 11 are just me checking my blog, but still. Who are the rest of you? Mom, are you just trying to make me feel good about myself again???

2. Best after school snack ever: dipping Golden Grahams in leftover birthday cake frosting. YUM. I am such a haus.

3. iTunes is seriously genius.

4. Current song obsession: "You Don't Know Me" by Ben Folds, feat. Regina Spektor. Also, I should be more embarrassed than I am to admit this, but I've caught myself humming "T-Shirt" by Shontelle recently as well...

5. February masthead - definitely stole that line off a grocery bag from a store around us. Seriously, is that good advertising?

6. Our school has the plague, I think. For the past week, there have been SO many students absent. Fortunately, my experience in Detroit has helped me adapt to fluctuating and unpredictable class sizes.

7. The deadline for putting your name in the Good Apple contest is rapidly approaching! If you haven't commented already, DO IT.

8. New shampoo = amazing! Thanks for the affirmation, girls.

2.02.2009

i should be sleeping like a log

I am up way too late, but I had to watch The Office from last night.

Also, I had a random thought that I wanted to verify with my fellow members of the fairer sex:

When you buy new shampoo & conditioner, does it make you ridiculously excited to shower? To the point where you ALMOST think it's a good idea to stay up even later to shower before bed?

Please tell me this is a woman thing, and not just a Rachel thing... I'm idiosyncratic enough as it is.
