blue dresses

I decided that I never would have forgiven myself if I had a whole week off of school and only sewed one tiny thing. So... I made some more today.

sew what.

My one sewing project of the week. Doesn't look great on that chair, but that's where I took the picture. Made from one of my old dress shirts & leftover material from another project.

In other random news, here's a picture from awhile ago that I don't think I ever shared... Doug was slouching down on the couch watching tv, and Zooey decided she needed to be closer to cuddle. So she climbed on top of him.

real life emails

Me: ... My sinuses are more backed up than Usher. I just made that up, that's how awful I feel.

Doug: I don't get it.

Me: Back up dancers?

Doug: Oh haha. You should have said your sinuses are backed up like Juvenile. That could be a Mucinex commercial. The mucus dancing and popping it.

Me: That's disgusting. I love it.

an open letter to david platt

Dear David Platt,
Are you sure that God doesn't want you to pastor in Detroit?
Love,
Rachel

"
Because we are owned by Christ, we owe Christ to the world. Every saved person this side of heaven owes the gospel to every lost person this side of hell. We owe Christ to the world.

Encompassed with this debt, though, in our contemporary approach to missions, we have subtly taken ourselves out from under the weight of a lost and dying world, wrung our hands in pious concern, and said, "I'm sorry. I'm just not called to that."

The result is tragic. A majority of individuals supposedly saved from eternal damnation by the gospel are now sitting back and making excuses for not sharing the gospel with the rest of the world.

Every single man, woman & child is intended to impact nations for the glory of Christ, and there is a God-designed way for us to live our lives here, and do church here, for the sake of people around the world who don't know Christ.

God saves me so that the nations will know him. He blesses me so that all the earth will see his glory!

sick day

I'm missing school today because I was attacked yesterday by some vicious strain of ... sickness. I even got a fever. I don't think I've had a fever since the 4th grade. But here we are, almost noon, and my temperature is back to normal. My throat is still sore & itchy & coughy, but all the fever symptoms are waning (you know - achy body, stiff neck, head feeling like it weighs a million pounds, cold sweats, etc).

So I'm taking the opportunity to post some pictures of spirit week & homecoming. The theme this year was "TV Networks" - I was skeptical at first, but it turned out great! The seniors were Cartoon Network, we juniors were Discovery Channel, sophomores were TV Land and the freshmen were A&E.

Our hallway (2nd place):

Our poster (2nd place... robbed. Robbed, I tell you.)

Our whole class on PJ day:

Me & Marisa as mad scientists for the lip sync:

Our lip sync (3rd place...):
Our beloved MythBusters get pink-slipped and have their science lab taken over by a couple of devious mad scientists.
On their journey to get back their lab, they stumble into Shark Week, where they encounter deadly, dancing sharks.
They are rescued from these vicious vixens by the Cash Cab.
Unfortunately, the Cash Cab is pulled over by the cops... or the Village People?
Thankfully, while Victor Willis & Co. the cops are dancing, the MythBusters are able to escape, and it appears they will get some help from the one & only Bear Grylls, of Man v. Wild.
However, Bear is quickly distracted by a beautiful maiden, and it appears the MythBusters are once again on their own.
But wait! In a surprising turn of events, Discovery Channel unites to help the Mythbusters win back their lab, and a glorious, albeit super blurry, group dance to Eye of the Tiger ensues!
The end.

Friday night were the homecoming basketball games (both boys & girls won!) and Saturday night was the "social". Where there was a photo booth. Which naturally, my co-workers & I crammed into for some fun. Because, honestly, we wouldn't survive spirit week without each other!

snowpalooza

I love it when a snow day is announced a day in advance. Especially when Doug gets a snow day too!
Woke up this morning to about a foot of snow. Doug did some shoveling, while Zooey paced around, traumatized because she could hear Doug shoveling but she couldn't see him.
I did some sewing.
I made grilled cheese for lunch.
We watched Law & Order marathons (courtesy of Netflix!) and cuddled and laughed at Zooey...
Had taco dinner and watched some Burn Notice and laughed at Zooey some more.
I LOVE snow days.

Here are some other dresses that I made the other day...
my favorite so far:
Is that not the cutest pocket you've ever seen?! Look even more closely - it's even cuter close up.
See? Adorable. Adorable! ... if I may say so myself. And I may. Because it is.
