Ethiopia, Pt. 4

Thurs., June 28, cont.
When we last left off, Bo was in the process of slowly warming up to me  and Doug. After playing for a bit with the nanny, she gave him a bottle, laid him on his back, and slowly eased away from our little group.
At some point during our play date, my jeans started to feel a bit wet, and I realized that Bo had soaked through his diapers and his cute little shorts... so I went with a nanny to change him and she put him into charming little pink pants, with ruffles on the legs. Ha! We just kept laughing because with those big eyes and long lashes, combined with the pink pants... well, sorry Bo, but you looked like a little girl!
This was one of my favorite parts of the day (though, I suppose I would probably classify every moment there as my favorite part, sooo...). I think the picture above was taken by the director's son, and after taking a couple pictures like this, he returned our camera and went into the other room, leaving just the three of us in the nursery. Bo took his bottle and drifted off to sleep, while Doug and I just held his hands, his feet, gave him little kisses, and just giggled ridiculously at how cute our little man is! The littlest things, like crossing his feet while he was asleep, grunting like a little pig if he woke a little and went for his bottle again... he's AMAZING!
When Bo woke back up, he was in a playful mood and let Mom & Dad get some smiles and laughs out of him (SWOON)!
All too soon, we were told it was time to get going. Aaaand, can't really write or talk too much about that. We were so blessed to be able to spend about 6 hours with Bo - 4 hours more than we originally thought we'd have. We got to talk with the nannies and ask questions about how much he eats, sleeps, etc. Then Doug asked to pray with them and I cried again... The last sight of Bo is essentially burned into my mind - his nanny holding him to face us, waving his chubby little hand at us, his mouth open in a half smile, eyes bright as ever... ugh.

Thankfully on the drive home, Mark kept us chatting and occupied with spotting things like, oh, camels.
There was this stretch of the road where there were SO many watermelon stands... I wish I had counted all of them. All of them were stacked just as high as this one. Pastor Z's brother had one, so Mark had Agenyo pull over and we bought a few watermelons from him.
The drive home was beautiful, but seemed to take forever, though I think part of it was because I kept thinking it was much later than it actually was. We got home around 9, I think, and both of us just crawled into bed and were asleep pretty quickly!

  3. Hey there, this is Megan "Wilhelm" Chaney, from college. You and I had a campus ministry together once, ages ago it seems. Adoption is something that's been on my heart for quite some time. Thank you for sharing your story here. It's beautiful, just beautiful. You and your sweet family will continue to be in my prayers.

Thank you so much for your encouragement! I pray that God will direct your family's steps as you continue to pray about adoption. It's truly a blessing to be a part of.
