recently i'm... [34]

I told my mom that I was going to announce our pregnancy by posting this picture with the caption:
"Yo, I peed on this."
Well, I ended up deciding that pictures of Bo with the sonogram were far cuter.
And a little more reader-friendly.

Don't worry - this is NOT becoming a pregnancy blog.
I do just want to address a few questions that I've gotten, and that will be that.
To make it more interesting, I'm including pictures of Bo.

How have you been feeling?
Overall, I've been feeling pretty well.
Since about week 5 or 6 of my pregnancy, I've had morning sickness about 5 mornings a week.
I've thrown up more in the past 2 months than my entire life.
However, the majority of the time, I feel fine in the afternoon & evening.
So, I really can't complain!
How far along are you? When is your due date?
I'm 14 weeks today! Happy 2nd trimester! My due date is October 21.
When did you find out you were pregnant?
March 2nd.
We were in Michigan that weekend for a wedding, and I had been feeling a little queasy a few days in a row.
Well, that morning (the 2nd), I ended up throwing up at our friends' house before we left,
and I was extremely suspicious... but then Bo threw up about 10 minutes later,
so I thought maybe we just had a bug.
Still, when we got home, I stopped and bought a test - just in case.
Surprise!
Are you finding out the gender? Are you sharing names?
As of now, we do not plan to find out. We'll see if we have the resolve to stick it out.
We are not going to share names.
Does Bo understand that he's going to be a big brother?
I have no idea how much he understands.
When I ask, "What are you going to be?" he answers, "A big brother!"
And then I ask, "What's in mommy's tummy?" and he says, "A baby."
Then, he'll usually ask if he can see the baby and try to lift my shirt.
Okay, I think those are the questions we've received most frequently.
Let me know if there's anything you're dying to know.

OH - cravings. I have not had any yet.
However, the saddest news is that mini Cadbury eggs have tasted gross to me,
and if you know me at all, you know that forgoing this Easter treat
is maybe the greatest sacrifice a parent has ever made for their child.

a little update

Bo's going to be a big brother!
I'm due October 21, so I'm about 13 weeks.
We can't wait to meet this new life & see Bo as a big bro.

rewards of gentleness

Yesterday afternoon, I was putting Bo down for his nap.
As sometimes happens, he was more interested in squirming all over than closing his eyes and resting.
I sat in the rocking chair in his room, watching as he pulled his socks off and
wriggled around until his head was at the foot of the bed.
Eventually, I decided to lie down next to him and see if that would help him calm down.
I plopped my head on "Pudge", my old stuffed bear that has been passed on to Bo.
Bo snuggled up next to me, and proceeded to kick at the bed frame and wiggle around.
I felt frustration building and swallowed the urge to tell him strongly to lie still.
Instead, I whispered, "I love you, Bo."
He popped his head up and whispered, "I love you, too," and planted a kiss on my cheek.
And fell asleep about two minutes later.

I need to cling to little moments like that as a reminder that gentleness can produce great rewards.

If I want my son to be "kind and gentle" - a phrase we're saying a lot these days -
then I need to model that for him.
I'm grateful for a little boy who is so full of grace toward his mama as we learn together.
