amethyst enchanted land

O hushed October morning mild,

Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,

Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
one from our trees, one far away.
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst...

house: kitchen!

The people who lived in our house before we bought it kindly removed all the appliances, all the cupboard hardware, and the air conditioning unit.

We don't have new hardware yet, but we do have a fresh coat of paint and new appliances! We were able to get our fridge, microwave & dishwasher off Craiglist, and then we splurged and bought a new oven (which I am obsessed with...).

Never thought I'd have a red kitchen, but I LOVE IT!

real life conversations, pt. 8

This is a conversation I had with my 6-year old niece, Leslie. This was after dinner, when she and her brother, Griffin, had both thanked me for dinner at least twice and told me that I "cook good food". Leslie & I were making cookies together.

Leslie: I can't wait for the cookies to be done! I'm going to watch them cook.
Me: Okay - you let me know when they're nice and golden brown.
Leslie: Yes! And then we will eat them. They will be SO good, because you cook good food!
Me, laughing: Thanks, Lili.
Leslie: And when you grow up, you should be a cook!
Me: That's a good idea. But then I can't be a teacher.
Leslie: You don't have to do that. You can be whatever you want to be!
Me: Good point. Good point.

house: our bedroom

I'm finally getting around to sharing some pictures of the house! I borrowed my friend Ellie's camera.

Here's the bed & bath when Doug went through for the inspection.

Bay window in the bedroom...

View from the door...

Yowza.

A very, VERY green bathroom. Notice the high gloss finish, reflecting off of EVERYTHING.

In progress:

And the finished (for now) product:

Yay! Much more soothing!

Ta-da!
